Interview with Emily

Today I’m interviewing my good friend Emily! She is the sweetest, and I think you’re going to love what she has to say. ūüôā

What would you say your style is?

I wear lots of varieties of clothing but when I look in my closet the prominent styles are florals, colorful patterns, lace, and pearls. So if I summed up my style it would be “classy boho with a hint of preppy”.

What are 5 summer wardrobe staples that you can’t live without?

1) Floral Romper. Gifted. My friend bought it from Italy! It’s very vibrant and fun.

2)Aeropostale Dark Wash Midi Shorts. You can dress them up or down!

3) Kiss and Cry Palazzo Pants. Mine are Navy and White with a bohemian pattern. They’re super comfy and I wear them all the time!

4) Forever 21 White Lace Tank. The best piece I’ve ever bought. Hands down.

5) Target Sterling Silver Pearl Earrings. I never take them out! They make a simple outfit classy!

If you had to dress only in clothes from one time period, when would you choose and why?

Without a doubt the 1920’s. From the sparkly dresses to the long strings of pearls to the lace, this era was when feminism really took off. Glitz and glam embodied this time period. The era was just bubbly and fun!

What are your go-to pair of shoes?

My go to shoes would have to be my Bass Women’s Sharon Sandals in White.

Do you believe name brands should be the focal point of your style?

No, certainly not. The only time I pay for name brands are if I truly love a piece. I buy for how much I like a piece of clothing verses being in a name brand clique. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing name brands, they’re just not my usual purchases. Instead, I love shopping in a variety places. My usual go-tos are Ross, Marshall’s, and Forever 21. I’ve even found a couple pieces in Walmart. And of course, the queen of all my clothing purchases… Target. I think that variety is always best which is why I don’t limit my style to certain brands. You don’t want to restrict yourself and miss out on clothing pieces that could become favorites!

What clothing items are you wearing in this outfit?

  1. Thong Sandals from Target
  2.  My little white dress is from Ross and unfortunately Ross does not have a website where you can search for specific items but here is the link to a similar white dress!
  3. Wide Brim Floppy Hat from Walmart

What does this outfit say uniquely about you?

This outfit portrays my style in that it looks put together but it is comfortable. I usually dress for comfort above all so this outfit really captures me. It is also a very summery and beachy look which is my all time favorite. I’m definitely a beach bum!

What advice do you have for other girls who are searching for their own style?

I try out new styles all the time and I feel like that is a perfectly acceptable way to find where you fit in the style world. Recently I found where I fit but that doesn’t mean I don’t try new things. My advice would be if you don’t love what you wear, keep on trying new things. And above all I think the style you choose should do three important things for you: make you confident, make you happy, and make you comfortable.

Interview With Ashley // Preppy Miss

Part Two in my interview series! Today I interviewed the lovely Ashley from the Blog and Instagram Preppy Miss.

When did you first become interested in fashion?

I have been interested in fashion for as long as I can remember. I have always loved playing dress up and distinguishing myself by my style!

What made you decide to start a blog?

I started my Instagram account (@preppymiss) almost three years ago and saw a lot of other girls my age blogging, so I decided to take the leap! I also liked writing about fashion, lifestyle, and anything else that interested me.

Are you planning on a career in fashion?

I plan on going into some kind of fashion marketing.

If you could choose ONE item to be the essential in a preppy wardrobe, what would it be?

Pearls of any kind! I love my pearl earrings, but a necklace or bracelet can also add the perfect classic touch!

Who are your style inspirations?

Sarah Vickers, Jackie O, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Nancy Drew, Ali Macgraw (in Love Story) and so many others! I watch a lot of old movies, so I tend to draw inspiration from them.

Is there a particular clothing brand that you feel drawn to?

I love Lilly Pulitzer for the summer, the lifestyle they sell is so fun! Other than that J Crew has to be my all time favorite.

What outfit would be good for the first day at school?

Anything that makes you feel confident – for me it’s a pretty skirt or chino shorts, a simple oxford or striped shirt, a denim jacket, and a pair of Jack Rogers.

What advice do you give other girls out there looking for their style?

Don’t let anyone define or label your style! It doesn’t have to be preppy, edgy, girly, or hipster – it can be a combination or none at all! That’s the beauty of fashion, you can use it to express yourself and your personality.

Fashion Spotlight: Tristen

This is a new feature on my blog that I hope you’re going to love! It’s a “Fashion Spotlight” on some of my fellow fashionistas. Today’s spotlight is my friend Tristen. ūüôā
What would you say your style is?
If I had to narrow it down, I would consider myself a “classic prepster”: a mesh of preppy, hipster, and classic feminism.
What are 5 wardrobe staples that you can’t live without?
For warmer weather, I’d definitely have to say‚Ķ
1. green ruffled army jacket from Zara – Both neutral and girly, it’s perfect for those cool nights.
2. dark wash from Hollister – Worn with boots or cuffed as capris, these are a year round staple.
3. strappy taupe sandals from SODA – These unique, neutral sandals can dress up a casual outfit in an instant.
4. navy shorts from Old Navy РIn my book, navy goes with everything…these are a must have.
5. chambray shift dress from Red Camel – This dress is super comfortable & cool, aka, my go to for an “I-look-like-I-tried-but-didn’t” look.
If you had to dress only in clothes from one time period, when would you choose and why?
Definitely the 1950’s. From the tea-length dresses to gloves and kitten heels, the fifties totally embody the polished feminine look that I adore.
What are your go-to pair of shoes?
Lately, I’ve been grabbing my white, low top Converse sneakers. They can be dressed up or down, and they’re super comfy.
Do you believe name brands should be the focal point of your style? Why?
No. While it’s fun to sport a little whale or polo player on your button up, name brands can be restrictive. I’m all about thrifting clothing dupes from consignment shops and department stores. Sure, splurge on a name brand blouse or pair of boots every once in a while. However, when you choose to wear name brand everything, you close yourself off from a world of unique wardrobe must-haves!

What is one of your favorite outfits for spring?

IMG_8042

What brands are you wearing in this outfit?
Jeans: Hollister Jeans Super Skinny Fit (on sale for $25)
Blouse: Old Navy (thrifted for $3)
Cheetah Flats: American Eagle (gifted)
Bracelet: Kiel James Patrick (gifted)
Watch: Daniel Wellington (gifted)
What does this outfit say uniquely about you?
This outfit is one of my personal favorites because of its classy mixed prints. It’s both professional, yet comfy, which is exactly what I look for in a staple outfit. The pearls add my signature touch of class, while the cheetah flats *heart eyes* add a fun flare. This is definitely one of my go-tos when I need to look put together.
What advice do you have for other girls who are searching for their own style?
Your style is just that: yours. Don’t rely on the unknown fashion gods to determine what you wear. It’s all right to dislike the current trend! Someone once told me, “What you wear should enhance your message.” Everyone’s messages will differ, therefore, certain trends won’t work for everyone. Are you a girly girl? Do you like sports and being active? Do you prefer a more sharp, professional environment? Do you adore the boho look? Your clothes and style should enhance the message about who you are and what you like. So portray that message tastefully.
