10 Under $10

One of the problems I have with being a teenager is that I don’t have a cash flow large enough to buy all of the things I want. I mean, $15 a week doesn’t exactly pay for Lilly Pulitzer shift dress, now does it? One thing I CAN handle is a fabulous find for under $10! I’ve put together 10 of my favorite bargains for my soul sisters out there with the same problem.

Are these not the most gorgeous earrings? They’re on clearance at J. Crew for only $9.99!

I love this Black Tank Dress from Target for only $9.98! It would be so easy to dress up or down, and it could transition to fall with some cute tights and a denim jacket.

This adorable top from TJ Maxx is $10 even, but I love the nautical look. They have it in navy blue as well!

I am so in love with this North Carolina tee. It’s only $7.49, what a steal!

More of those nautical stripes on this peplum tee, but this time with vintage lace! โค

You know those blue shorts I’ve been wearing a lot lately? They’re now on clearance for only $7.49!

More NC love with this tank top from Belk. It’s marked down to $7.49.

The bright pattern on theseย shorts is perfect to end your summer with flair.

My cropped pants are one of the most frequently used items in my closet, so why not pick up this pair for only $9.99?

I saved the best deal for last! This tank top from Target is on clearance for $5.08! They have several different colors, so maybe get more than one to stock up for next summer.

I hope you found something you loved in this 10 Under $10! I know I sure did.

Jack Rogers – Why I Bought the Fake Ones

Okay. I happen to be the poster kid for name brand preppy stuff – wishing I had it that is. I have hardly anything that’s name brand…including Jack Rogers. BUT if you’re like me and wishing for those metallic sandals, here is a great alternative that I found yesterday!

Palms Carolina from Shoe Show is the closest match I’ve seen to Jack Rogers. I honestly don’t know how they made it so similar, considering Jack Rogers are trademarked. They’re a whopping $25, and they are infinitely more comfortable than real Jacks. I’m in love. With shoes…I may have a problem.

Thrifty: Lauren, Jack, and J. Crew

This gingham Lauren James Dress is fabulous, but at $125, it hurts a little to buy it.

This one from DressLilly has a similar cut and color, and it’s only $17!

Jack Rogers are a classic summertime prep staple. I, for one, will NOT spend $120 on a pair of sandals. Leather boots for that price? Yes. Sandals? No.

No picture sample, but you can find gently used or brand new Jacks on Ebay (direct link to Jack Rogers sandals attached).

The J. Crew Twisted Pearl Necklace is iconic in the preppy world. For $98, it’s not too bad for genuine pearls. If you’re not looking for a long term investment though, perhaps we should go the thrifty way.

This Target Brand Pearl Necklace is perfect at $25.

Thrifty: Bean, Wellington, and Ray Ban

There are a lot of trends going on right now in the preppy world. They can come and go so quickly, but it can be fun to invest in some trendy pieces every once in a while. These are a few trending styles – one of the name-brand item and one of a much cheaper, but still cute knockoff. (I am more of a knockoff person, but it probably has to do with the fact that I’m 14 and I don’t have a job.)

L.L.Bean Duck Boots….so classic. At $120, they’re not crazy expensive, but they’re also on backorder, so who knows when you would get them?

These Duck Boots from American Eagle are $80, and they are NOT on backorder. It’s a win-win!

Daniel Wellington watches…be still, my heart. However, if I don’t have $175 to spend on shoes, how could I possibly spend it on a watch?

Although without the nautical navy stripe, this Nine West Watch is a good $49 compromise. I love the pale pink and the rose gold accents.

Okay….I’ll admit it. I have my own pair of Ray-Bans. I LOVE mine, so if you want to spend $150 on a pair of sunglasses you will have my full support. Mine were a gift though. (shhh.)

BUT if you don’t have that kind of money, these Aviators from Target are what I lived off of until I was gifted my Ray-Bans.

So there you have it. You can dive head-first into the preppy world without having to bust your wallet! ๐Ÿ™‚

Not About the Money

Preppy style is really defined by certain brands…for example: Vineyard Vines, J. Crew, L.L. Bean, Lilly Pulitzer, etc. However, as a 14 year old without a job, name brands can be pretty hard to come by. If you’re in a similar situation, I hope my outfits can be of some inspiration to you. ๐Ÿ™‚ I try my best to create those on-trend preppy looks, but with a lower price point. I’m definitely not saying name brands are bad, I have a pair of Sperry’s that are my FAVORITE shoes, and I’m in the process of saving up for some Hunters. (Navy blue, in case you were wondering.)

I get a lot of my clothes from T.J. Maxx – they have name brands and really great prices.

This is a Ralph Lauren dress, and I got it at T.J. Maxx for $10 because it had hole in it. My mom fixed it for me, and viola! A super cute name-brand dress for $10.

You just have to be creative and flexible when it comes to thrifty prep shopping…look for deals, and find just-as-cute items from off-brands. ๐Ÿ™‚
